Chasing Tulips from Above: A Dream Come True in the Netherlands
1. The Dream of Tulip Fields from Above
I’ve always dreamt of seeing the tulip fields of the Netherlands from above — a patchwork of vibrant colors stretching to the horizon. Two years ago, I visited the country during tulip season and was lucky enough to explore the famous Keukenhof Gardens and catch glimpses of nearby fields. That experience planted a seed in my heart.
2. Returning with a Mission: Capturing Tulips by Drone
This year, with my first drone in hand, I returned — this time with a mission: to capture the beauty of the tulips from the sky. And what a sight it was! Rows upon rows of red, yellow, purple, and pink blooms danced in the spring breeze. Seeing them from above truly took my breath away.
3. When to Visit Tulip Fields in the Netherlands
Tulip season is an unforgettable natural spectacle. The best time to visit is typically mid-April to early May, when the flowers are in full bloom. Keep in mind, though, that peak bloom can shift slightly each year depending on the weather.
4. Where to Go – Close to Amsterdam
Many of the most photogenic tulip fields are located in the Lisse region, about 30–40 minutes by car from Amsterdam. It’s a perfect day trip for anyone based in the city. Keukenhof, the most famous flower garden in the country, is also in this area and absolutely worth a visit.
5. Field Access & Etiquette
While some fields allow visitors to walk among the flowers, many are on private property. Always respect signage and never step into fields without permission. Tulips are delicate, and trampling them causes real damage to the harvest.
6. Why Every Nature Lover Should Witness Tulip Season at Least Once
As a nature lover, being surrounded by such color and fragrance was pure joy. From above, the view becomes something magical — a living painting on the Dutch landscape. I’m thrilled to share some of my aerial shots soon and hope they bring you as much awe as they brought me behind the drone lens.
